Flea & Tick Control in Oklahoma City

Local, Licensed Treatment: Safe for Kids, Pets, & Your Peace of Mind

Oklahoma City’s warm climate keeps flea and tick activity running from April through October, with some pressure continuing year-round. It often starts quietly: a pet scratching more than usual, small red bites clustering on an ankle, or a tick found on a child after an afternoon in the backyard. By the time those signs appear, eggs and larvae may already be embedded in carpets and furniture, well beyond what store-bought sprays can reach.

Rocky Mountain spotted fever, transmitted by the American dog tick, is the most important tick-borne disease in Oklahoma. Ehrlichiosis, spread by the lone star tick, ranks among the illnesses with the highest incidence rates in the state. These aren’t distant concerns for Oklahoma County residents. They’re active risks during the months when families spend the most time outdoors.

Founded in 2020, Priority Pest & Mosquito Solutions is a locally owned, family-operated pest control company serving Oklahoma City homeowners and businesses. Our fully licensed and insured technicians use Integrated Pest Management (IPM) methods, selecting treatments for use around children and pets while addressing infestations at every stage of the flea life cycle. We offer free estimates, same-day appointments when available, and 24/7 emergency services for situations that can’t wait.

Our Flea & Tick Treatment Process

Effective flea control requires addressing all four stages of the flea life cycle: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Adult fleas are only a small fraction of an active infestation. The rest are hidden in carpets, baseboards, and pet resting areas in earlier life stages. Targeting only visible adults leaves the cycle intact and the infestation ongoing. That’s why our process is built around thoroughness, not just surface treatment.

Every service begins with a detailed inspection of both indoor and outdoor environments. Indoors, we assess carpets, baseboards, and pet bedding. Outdoors, we focus on the lawn perimeter, shaded areas, tall grass, crawl spaces, and high-traffic pet zones where ticks concentrate between hosts. From there, we build a treatment plan specific to your property, accounting for Oklahoma City’s climate, the layout of your home or business, and the severity of the infestation.

Our treatments use IPM methods and products approved for residential and commercial use in Oklahoma. For flea control, this includes insect growth regulators (IGRs), which disrupt the reproductive cycle and prevent immature fleas from developing into breeding adults. Because dormant flea pupae can survive an initial treatment cycle, we schedule follow-up visits to address newly emerging adults before they can re-establish. After each visit, our technicians walk you through the prevention steps specific to your property.

Will Fleas Bite Humans?

Fleas bite humans as readily as they bite animals, targeting the ankles, lower legs, waistline, and armpits. Bites typically appear as small clusters of red marks, often in a line pattern, and they itch immediately. Oklahoma’s spring and summer outdoor lifestyle raises exposure risk, particularly for anyone spending time in yards, parks, or areas with tall grass.

Flea-borne typhus is a disease fleas can transmit to people, with symptoms that include fever, chills, muscle aches, vomiting, and confusion. Flea-borne plague, caused by Yersinia pestis, is rare but transmissible through flea bites and typically presents with flu-like illness and swollen lymph nodes. Both warrant prompt medical attention if suspected.

If you notice bite clusters on your lower legs after time outside, or your pets are scratching more than usual, those are early indicators worth acting on before an infestation becomes established.

How to Remove a Tick From Your Pet

The CDC provides detailed tick removal guidance with step-by-step images. Fine-tipped tweezers are the recommended tool. Grasp the tick as close to the skin’s surface as possible and pull upward with steady, even pressure. Don’t twist or jerk the tick. That can break off the mouthparts and leave them embedded in the skin. If some mouthparts remain after removal, try to remove them with tweezers. If you can’t get them out cleanly, let the area heal and monitor for signs of infection.

After removal, clean the bite area and your hands with rubbing alcohol or soap and water. Dispose of the tick by placing it in alcohol, sealing it in a container, or flushing it down the toilet. Never crush a tick with bare fingers.

Oklahoma pet owners are well served by keeping fine-tipped tweezers and a small jar of rubbing alcohol near pet grooming supplies for quick access. Many local veterinary clinics can also perform safe tick removal and provide printed removal instructions for home reference.

If a rash or fever develops within several weeks of a tick bite, seek medical evaluation and tell your doctor the likely location and timing of the bite. Early evaluation and treatment for tick-borne illness can improve outcomes.

Safe removal steps at a glance:

  • Use fine-tipped tweezers; grasp as close to the skin as possible
  • Pull upward with steady, even pressure; don’t twist or jerk
  • Clean the bite site with rubbing alcohol or soap and water
  • Dispose of the tick in alcohol, a sealed container, or flush it down the toilet
  • Visit your local veterinary clinic if you’re unsure about safe removal
  • Contact a doctor if a rash or fever develops within weeks of a bite

When at-home removal and prevention aren’t enough, Priority Pest & Mosquito Solutions is available for professional flea and tick control across Oklahoma City.
